Colisiones no justificadas
Another unlucky event happened last week. A japanese warship collided with a fishing boat, east of Tokyo. The fishing boat was halved, and two fishermen are missing.
The warship is equiped with the latest ship detection technology. What was the problem then? a human error? we do not know wether both ships were equiped with AIS transponders.
But it stems from this piece of news, there is still a lot to do with regards to maritime traffic detection, and radar systems seem not to be enough.
Our best wishes for the search of survivors.

We love talking about our projects, because we love the sea and technology on board, but in this blog we also like to give it a “friendly touch”, especially when we find things like this, that are the target of our most sincere admiration.
In this forum we found the web of this citizen from Argentina, that is building a boat in the backyard of his house!!
You can follow with detail and pictures how he has been building the creature during the last couple of years. Don’t hesitate to send us websites where we could find things like this; we love it ![]()
Thuraya Iridium Inmarsat
We are already selling and renting thuraya and Iridium satellite mobile phones, as well as the Inmarsat transponders like the ones we’ve used for the Gran Prix regatta.
Let us give you a quick summary of differences between Iridium and Thuraya, so that buyers can be properly informed:
Thuraya:
In both satellite-only or combo GSM/satellite versions, thuraya phones provide a supreme communication quality with a very large satellite coverage worldwide. Please check the coverage maps here. Besides, the GSM/satellite version is the ultimate solution if you want to have an unique telecommunication solution at home, when traveling abroad, or sailing anywhere in the coverage area.
It is cheaper than Iridium both in terms of the price of the equipment and the price of the calls.
Iridium:
Unlike Thuraya, Iridium enjoys worldwide coverage, even in the poles. It is a very robust and reliable communication solution prepared for the hardest conditions. Since Thuraya phones do not cover the Atlantic beyond Azores or Cabo Verde, Iridium is the advisable choice if you are going to sail in that area.
