Algunas fotos de Sandhamn
We have been to Sandhamn, a little earlier than the start of the most popular regatta in the Baltic Sea, where this year 255 boats will take part in this 70 year old competition, the Gotland Runt.
As a start, we must say that the most enjoyable part of the journey was to sail through the archipelago in Stockholm, packed with beautiful islands. We must apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, but they were made from a cell phone.

In Sandhamn, we met old friends, like the Ericsson, from our visit to the Volvo Ocean Race in Sanxenxo almost two years ago:

After that, we visited our friends of True Heading, with the PC Pilot that we expect to launch asap, and the boat they just bought:

In this island, a maximum of 100 people live during the winter. During these dates however, up to 10000 people gather during the regatta in concerts, celebrations of any kind, parties, and in pictoresque restaurants such as this:
Gotland Runt
Gotland Runt (site in English and mostly in Swedish) is the most important regatta taking place in the Baltic Sea. No doubt it is also the most prestigious. It has been celebrated for the last 70 years.
This year, more than 200 boats will take part in this regatta, that leaves the swedish city of Sandhamn, to turn around the island of Gotland.
Our friends at True Heading have been not only been collaborating with the organization of the regatta for the last few years, but also have been participating with their own boat. This year, no less than 98 boats will be carrying our AIS CTRX transponder!!!
The regatta will be broadcasted live by the organization with AIS class B for the first time in the world, and we’ll be in Sandhamn ourselves to tell you more about its development and what kind of atmosphere is in there. Hopefully we’ll be able to upload a few pictures as well.
According to the official website, a graph of the route would be the following:
Escanerfrecuencias
We’ve just found a very interesting forum of radio-amateurs, with users from all over the spanish speaking world.
We believe it is an ideal place in order to learn about the great world of the radio-waves. In particular, in their website here, they have a course for beginners that we believe is particularly interesting.
UPDATE: ESCANER FRECUENCIAS CLOSED UNDER INVESTIGATION
Informe de Greenpeace
Thanks to the neverending source of information at our favourite forum site, la taberna, we found this report from Greenpeace about the overconstruction on the Spanish coast.
We believe it is very positive to study thoroughly this enormous problem, and very especially, ways to remedy the massive damage inflicted on our coastal areas. We agree that, no doubt, the impact of the construction of a marina must be minimized in as many ways as possible.
Nevertheless, we believe it is rather more scary the data that states that up to 3 million apartments and houses have been projected to be built in the next few years, as opposed to only 112 marinas in the whole country, marinas, by the way, that mostly promote sailing, a very ecological sport.
We are currently in Sweden, well known for not being a specially polluting country, and where there are marinas and harbours almost everywhere. Actually, the ratio of persons to boats is up to 20 times smaller than in Spain. Nobody would say that the coast here is damaged, because whereas there are many marinas, there are hardly any massive apartment buildings overlooking the sea, as opposed to Spain. What do you think?
